El estallido de la Guerra Civil en Cataluña trajo consigo la colaboración de todas las organizaciones que se oponían a los rebeldes y el nacimiento de un nuevo régimen en el que la Confederación Nacional del Trabajo dejó de ser oposición y pasó a ser parte integrante del nuevo poder político. Los sindicatos inspirados por el anarquismo revolucionario formaron parte de los gobiernos unitarios de los Ayuntamientos hasta el final del conflicto bélico.
