This paper proposes a reflection on the image of Carlos II, in the Spanish historiography but especially in the Anglo-Saxon one and on the impact that it has had in the studies on the international relations of the period. The purpose of the article is not to systematize the renewed historiographic image of the reign, but rather to emphasize that in this renewed image there are enough clues, suggestions and indications that the biographical neglect of the monarch is significant and that the vision of him is maintained attached to an understanding forged when the parameters of understanding of his historical time and his reign were radically different and undoubtedly poorer than those now available. Thus, its main conclusion is that it is necessary to face a political analysis of the figure of Carlos 1. UNED.
