This article focuses on the Amerindian languages in the Diccionario critico etimologico castellano e hispanico (DECH) and aims to show what lexicographic treatment is given to loanwords of that origin in the dictionary, the sources used to explain their etymologies and the processes of lexical borrowing originating in these languages. It shows as well the words which represent the native American contribution to the Spanish language in the nomenclature of this etymological dictionary.
