10.5944/comunitania.8.6Abstract: This paper analyzes, from a gender approach, how gender roles attributed to women favor a low social recognition and low self esteem. The stereotype of femininity leads in essence any absence of ambition and confidence itself. All these characteristics of femininity embodied in the imaginary social have to be allocated exclusively care work to women. When women have entered the labor market, still face enormous recognition difficulties. These roles have been responsible for acquired chronic stress experienced by women, and poorer mental health and more depression. From the phenomenological analysis of the speech of women, together with the literature review of secondary sources, we provide some meanings represent the discomfort perceived by women. The relationship will help important to prevent chronic stress and thus depression in women, but we must not leave out the men are also affected by gender roles especially in recognizing depression because it links with weak people. Resumen: Este arti´culo analiza desde una perspectiva de ge´nero co´mo los roles atribuidos a las mujeres favorecen un bajo reconocimiento social y una baja autoestima. El estereotipo de feminidad lleva en su esencia toda ausencia de ambicio´n y confianza en si´ misma. Todas estas caracteri´sticas de feminidad incorporadas en el imaginario social han hecho que se asignaran en exclusividad las labores de cuidado a las mujeres. Cuando han entrado en el mercado laboral, siguen encontrando enormes dificultades de reconocimiento. Estos roles adquiridos han sido responsables del estre´s cro´nico que sufren las mujeres, y de una peor salud mental y mayor depresio´n.
