The literature review was conducted to review barriers to provision of psychiatric nursing care in the world. The literature search highlighted a dearth of literature in Nigeria on barriers to provision of psychiatric nursing care, highlighting a gap in knowledge base that needs to be filled. The aim of publishing this literature review is to fill the gap in knowledge highlighted. The literature review was discussed under four headings namely: universal barriers, barriers in Nigeria, barriers in some middleincome economies and barriers in some high-income economies. The implications of discussing the barriers under various heading were also discussed.
