The present article investigates the development of practices and adoption of new technologies and new forms of acting into the sort of hosting located within the territorial limits of Brazil, regulated by EMBRATUR, following the ordering criteria of the Brazilian Classification System, especially from the perspective of sustainability on the cultural, environmental and social contexts. The investigation adopted bibliographical and document research, using several publications available at national and international levels. Because of this, the aim was to contemplate the multiple participants in this scenery, among them highlighting the kinds of hosting and the organs responsible for regulation, with the objective of verifying the applicability of this system and evaluating its progress in relation to the forms of classifying the previous sectors. Finally, it is registered that the sector that demonstrates an ability to obtain better advances trying to qualify its services and add value to the offered product.   Key words: Tourism, hotels, Brazilian classification system, SBCLASS, sustainability, hospitality.
