Selected Reference Books of 1987-88

II his article follows the pattern set by the semiannual series initiated by the late Constance M. · Winchell more than thirty years ago and continued by Eugene P. Sheehy. Since the purpose of the list is to present a selection of recent scholarly and general works of interest to reference workers in university libraries, it does not pretend to be either well balanced or comprehensive. A brief roundup of new editions of standard works is provided at the end of the article. Code numbers (such as AD540, CJ331) have been used to refer to titles in Guide to Reference Books (10th ed., Chicago: American Library Assn., 1986).
