W is the responsibility of the university library for the undergraduate students in the arts and sciences? Are not the problems faced by the university library in its relation to the library needs of undergraduates similar to those faced by the library in the liberal arts college? Or, is the reverse true? Comparisons of the responsibilities of college and university librarians usually devote attention to librarians as chief executives. Such comparisons can easily be misleading as they consider the activities of but one member of the staff of the college or the university library and obscure the fact that in the college and university alike there are liberal arts students and their teachers whose library needs must be met. It is only by careful study of these needs that the differences and similarities of the college library and university library can be clearly understood.
