Computational paradigm has been revolving\udround cloud computing and its offshoots for some time\udand till we see a breakout resulting in a breakthrough\udtechnology driven by advances in microelectronics and\udmaterial technology. Till we experience a radically\udefficient technology for computation it is worth\udjuxtaposing the virtues of cloud computing and market‟s\udlonging for offering cost and quality arbitrage to the\udmarketplace. Integration of cloud computing in\udenterprises has the potential to influence the way business\udgets carried out by them in the market place. Different\udreports show that demand for cloud computing products\udand processes is in an upward growth trajectory. This\udpaper identified the characteristics, drivers and\udconstraints of cloud computing which influence its\udadaptation and integration in enterprises. We are also\udexamining India specific opportunities and threats of\udcloud computing tools and cloud driven practices in the\udcontext of fierce competition among enterprises to remain\udcompetitive in the marketplace by reducing software\udlicensing fees, cost of capital to acquire digital systems\udand cost of maintenances.\udNew directions in cloud computing are analyzed by\udusing Gartner strategic technologies and trend in research\udpublications. Paper focuses on exploring the research\udissues which are categorized into technical and business\udin nature for understanding the evolving fortunes of cloud\udcomputing. Number of papers published in IEEE is an\udindication of the popularity and relevance of the\udcontinued research initiatives happening in the area. It is\udalso noticed that that very few researchers are attempting\udto understand the possibility of remodeling business\udprocesses leveraging the new found computational\udparadigm
