Within any Defence Force, certain traditional customs and ceremonies exist of which the origin is not generally known. Even the origin, or original meaning of certain standing phrases, peculiar to the Military is sometimes unknown. In order to supplement this deficiency, a regular column on this subject will be presented. By means of introduction, cmdt Fourie was requested to write a covering article on the subject in question. besondere
