Concerning the mechanism of action, dapsone combines both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Dapsone rarely induces oxidation of hemoglobin that reduces the enzyme activity of cytochrome b5 reductase located in erythrocytes resulting in significant methemoglobinemia. Herein we report a case of methemoglobinemia in a 36-year-old male patient using dapsone for eight years with discoid lupus diagnosis.
