Interest in the role of soil animals in humus formation is currently at a low ebb in North America. In this paper, the results of animal activity are briefly described as an aid in identifying and understanding the evolution of certain types of forest humus layers formed under aerobic conditions. No specific references are made to the available literature, but a few general texts are listed.
