The thematic of mega sporting events is recurrent, putting in first plan several conditions for the cities that host them. Some of the main areas affected by big events are sustainability and tourism, this last one because moves thousands of people to the games sites. To verify some of the questions involved in the planning process, the article aims to expose reflections on the relations between mega sporting events and environmental issues, focusing on principles of sustainability and socioeconomic, especially under the perspective of tourism, and for that, it resorts to previous examples, specifying benefits and adversities of the last seven editions of the Summer Olympics Games. Based on discussed theories and concepts in preceding investigations, the study uses, essentially, sources of documentary research as main methodological approach.
