Several immigrant groups of different ethnicities inhabited the southern region of Brazil, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Poles settled in the municipality of Cruz Machado, in the south of the state of Paraná, in 1911. The first years of settlement demanded from these people a lot of effort to overcome adversity. They built their houses, the Church and the school. This research aims to investigate the initial school organization, permeated by Polish culture from Europe. The study is justified in view of the fact that these groups created forms of social organization, including the school, which kept them together and helped them to maintain their cultural identity. The study aims to describe the trajectory of the Polish School of the Community of Sant ́Ana (Cruz Machado PR), founded in 1914, served by the Franciscan Sisters of the Holy Family of Mary, retrieving data on the foundation, operation, pedagogical didactic organization, among others, until approximately the 1980s. It uses bibliographic, descriptive and exploratory research, with field research through document analysis and interviews. The investigation is based on Cultural History and uses studies on Polish immigration by Wachowicz (2001) and on School Culture (JULIA, 2001).
