Estudiar la educacion como area del conocimiento nos puede llevar por muchas vertientes, una de ellas es el enfoque historico del desarrollo del pensamiento pedagogico. En esa dimension nos centramos en la influencia del pensamiento de la ilustracion sobre las formas de concebir la educacion venezolana durante el periodo de la crisis de la sociedad colonial y el desarrollo del planteamiento del proyecto nacional surgido a partir de la Independencia y hasta 1870. Es durante este periodo y bajo estas influencias que se transforma el concepto que se habia tenido de la educacion, surge la nocion de la instruccion publica, la educacion pasa a ser ahora valorada como un elemento potenciador de las sociedades (que dejara atras el caos consecuente de la guerra independentista) hacia el progreso material y economico, acompanado de la promesa de igualdad social; pero que en la realidad concreta la influencia de la ilustracion sirvio mas de marco referencial para definir que tipo de educacion era necesaria para el nuevo ciudadano republicano en un pais que vivia de la agricultura y el comercio. * * * Studying education as an area of knowledge can lead us in many ways, one of which is the historical study of the development of pedagogical thinking. This research focuses on the influence of the thought of the illustration on the ways of conceiving Venezuelan education during the period of the crisis of colonial society and the development of the approach of the national project emerged from Independence and until 1870. During this period and under these influences that the concept of education has been transformed, the notion of public education arises, education is now valued as a potentiating element of societies towards material and economic progress, accompanied of the promise of social equality. The illustration served as a framework for defining what kind of education was needed for the new Republican citizen in a country that lived from agriculture and commerce.
