This study was developed utilizing meteorological and forest fire occurrence data from 10 regions of Par ana state: Cambara, Campo Mourao, Cândido de Abreu, Cascavel, Guarapuava, Londrina, Palmas, Paranavai, Pinhais and Telemaco Borba. Collected data reffered to a five year period, from June 1998 to May 2003. The main objective of this research was to adjust the Modified Monte Alegre Formula ( FMA + ) for the state of Parana, based on the performance analysis of this index using the skill score method. The results showed that three different danger scales should be used in the State. The original danger class scale is to be used in the central state area, represented by the Cândido de Abreu, Cascavel, Guarapuava and Telemaco Borba regions . A second danger class scale is to be used in the northern area, represented by the Cambara and Paranavai regions and a third scale validated by the Campo Mourao, Londrina, Palmas and Pinhais regions, should be used in the remaining State areas.
