Our goal is to contribute with Ribeiro & Cyrino ́s (2010, this volume) discussion about the structure of DPs in the data from two Afro-Brazilian speakers born in the XIX century. The authors compare the data from the Afro-Brazilian subjects with the Cape Verdean Creole. We will extend the comparison to contemporary urban Brazilian Portuguese (BP), paying special attention to similarities with regards to the presence of countable singular bare nouns in argument position. We will also compare their data to language acquisition data from BP entertaining the idea that similarities might show stages of change into different grammars.
