This article aimed to address the specificities of the diagnostic process in psychopathology in childhoodfrom a literature review. At first, there was a theoretical basis on how psychoanalysis conceivesdiagnosis, contrasting with the medical perspective. Subsequently, reflected on how this thinking processin childhood, considering its particularities. Finally, were discussed the repercussions of the diagnosticact so peculiar in that period, taking as inspiration clippings practice in clinical psychology and schoollinking them with the theoretical findings. Anyway, it was discussed about the excessive prescriptionsperceived today, but also about the possible effects that may arise in the spaces where the child circulates:their family environment, school and social
