We observe nowadays a lack of preparation and an absense of teamwork among professional family workers. No one profession can meet all the requirements of the family in its health/sickness process, which confirms the need to work in an interdisciplinary way. This article reflects on the importance of working as interdisciplinary teams in the care and assistance given to families. The text was constructed during debates as part of a discipline for the Master’s Degree in Health – with specialisation in Family Health, at UNIVALI, Itajai (SC). Based on the discussions, we conclude that it is neccessary to develop communication between different professions and areas of knowlege, always aiming at providing integral family care, promoting, educating and assisting in all kinds of health problems – which are interdisciplinary and require the efforts of a team.
