This work is a bibliographical research that objective to identify the profile of the national research of nursing that they had used the method of the ethnography with emphasis in the care. The methodology was based on survey in the data base of the BDENF, having used the describers: ethnography, nursing and care. Twenty publications between the years of 1998 had been analyzed the 2008. Results: It had two publications per year approximately and the majority of the inquiries becomes related with the vital cycle or the clinical conditions of determined groups, beyond portraying the interaction of the nurse with the individual and family. The study places had varied, but all are in a collective perspective. For the collections of data different techniques had been used simultaneously, being distinguished participant comment. The research had been developed in some areas of knowledge, highlighting itself it Obstetric nursing and valuing relations of well-taken care of taking care of/. Conclusion: The ethnography research in nursing is excellent, making possible the construction of the knowledge in different aspects of the care.
