Retrospective research , developed at the Women’s Police Station in Guarapuava in Parana, in 2008, with 1.183 Police reports, in order to compare the profile of violence against women, a year before and during the first year after the approval of Law no. 11.340. It was found that violence is a common phenomenon among women living with a partner, married and single women with low education, between 21 and 40 years old. 84.69% of the victims were white. 72.8% of assaults occurred in residences, between 18 o’clock and midnight, mainly because of argues. From the total, 48.5% of the cases were psychological, 33.8 % physical, 16.1% moral, 0.8% patrimonial and 0.8% sexual. The aggressors were companions (33.3%), ex-partners (20.5%) and known people (32.7%). After the law, investigations and archiving increased; police reports reduced. It was found that a net must be created to be integrated with support from professionals trained to understand, recognize and know how to intervene in this kind of violence.
