Obesity is a chronic and progressive disease, dened by an excess of fat due to an imbalance of the balance between caloric intake and energy expenditure of an individual. Currently, it reaches about 35% of the Brazilian population, and the drugs available to treat obesity can be classied according to their mode of action: catecholaminergic, serotonin and catecholaminergic and inhibitors of fat absorption. This study aimed to examine the requirements of anorectics dispensed in a pharmacy with manipulation in Cascavel-PR. We collected the requirements of anorectic drugs, referring to substances from List B as Law SVS / MS No 344, May 12, 1998, retained in a pharmacy with manipulation of the city of Cascavel-Parana, during the months of May and June of 2008 and evaluated as the sex of the patient, prescribed medications, prescribed concentration of the drug and specialty of professional prescriber. We evaluated 448 prescriptions, of which 393 (88%) correspond to females and only 55 (12%) account users were male. Of the 448 prescriptions, 59.60% (267) were prescribed by endocrinologists, followed by 15.40% (69) anesthetists and general clinical 10.71% (48). It was found that the most prescribed drug was femproporex 52.90% (237), followed by amfepramone 26.56% (119) and sibutramine 20.30% (91). It was observed that some drugs were prescribed with a dosing, depriving the patient of adequate treatment. The treatment of obesity must necessarily involve changes in lifestyle, eating habits, the increase in physical activities and possibly the use of certain medications.
