As in decades the area of art education has not been taken care o in the national educative system. This has generated structural challenges for Art Education in the development of the national curriculum. This demands from the decision makers to think strategically to envisioned the changes and the desire future scenario. Here it is presented a summary of the findings from the research published, on 2011, by the Centro de Investigaciones en Ciencias y Humanidades (CICH), Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado. As well, it is included notes from the new study (developed 2014-2016) to be published. At the end there are reections to think about a National Strategy for the Development of Art Education in El Salvador proposing an integral and systemic approach to this national challenge.Revista de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales, n° 8, july-december 2016: 15-49
