The purpose of this study has been to analyze the process through which kindergarten pedagogy was first introduced in Nicaragua. The study aims at contributing to a better understanding of the history of preschool education. The methods involved archival research and bibliographic and document analysis according to Severino (2008). Documentary sources, such as biography, educational reports, letters, photographs, as well as studies about the history of the kindergarten, were consulted. The results indicate that, at the end of the 19th century, kindergarten pedagogy was first introduced and implemented in Nicaragua in the field of preschool education and teacher training by teachers from the United States at the Young Ladies College of Granada. This process received the influence of the international context of diffusion of the kindergarten and at the same time generated a process of diffusion, teaching and learning in Nicaragua. Therefore, there is a link between the developments of preschool education in Nicaragua with the international kindergarten movement during the second half of the 19th century.Revista Humanismo y Cambio Social.
