This article aims to analyze the perceptions of the stereotype and its relationship with the notions of identity and ethos of the subject in social networks around a bipartisan and polarized political climate. The theoretical framework is based on the scenography and ethos of Maingueneau (2005, 2008), on the notion of identity in Patrick Charaudeau (2009) and Ruth Amossy (2019) on stereotype and verbal identity. The analysis rests on an illustration of the Alagoan artist Cristiano Suarez of April of 2019; the illustration caused controbersy in social networks when working with political stereotypes and national symbols, accurately capturing the dichotomy of the Brazilian political discourse of 2019 according to the reactions provoked on both sides of the spectrum. We conclude that the opposite sides of the political table derive different values according to the discursive scene in which the stereotypes are inserted.
