The first part of this paper provides an overview of recent developments in accessing cultural heritage information on the web. A short introduction to documentation and digitization in the field of museums will be given. The next part describes the process of digitizing and virtualizing museum artefacts. A categorization is presented illustrating the development from simple web sites, their shift to more elaborate ones and their latest transformation into service portals making use of collaborative elements and integrating different sources of content.
