This study compares hemogram findings and neutrophils oxidative metabolism by the NBT reduction test of 14 Girolando calves with diarrhea. The animals were raised on a dairy farm in Santa Rosa, Universidade Federal de Goias, Jatai Campus, located in the southwest of Goias. Possible variations due to diarrhea complications evidenced at disease onset and at the end of treatment were evaluated and compared to results obtained from the examination of healthy animals (control group). Hemogram findings of sick and healthy calves were consistently different from those of bovine viral diarrhea infection. NBT test results revealed that neutrophils were less reactive at disease onset than at the end of treatment. Furthermore, their values were higher in healthy animals than in sick ones.
