Socio-demographic profile, clinical and health of people with venous ulcers treated at a university hospital

Objective: to characterize sociodemographic, health and clinic conditions people with venous ulcers treated at a university hospital in Natal/RN. Method: a descriptive study, which had as its target population 30 people with venous ulcers. We used the following inclusion criteria: to have venous ulcers, have more than 18 years, be served in outpatient surgical clinic HUOL. Data collection was performed by a collection instrument that addressed the sociodemographic, health and clinical characteristics of respondents. The data collected were organized into electronic database by typing in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application, tabulated and presented in tables and descriptive way. Such research was considered by the Ethics Committee in Research of HUOL/UFRN, obtaining Certificate of Appreciation Presentation to Ethics CAAE 0148.0.051.000-10. Results: 76.7% were female, 83.3% illiterate/literate/high school, 73.3% earned less than minimum wage, 53.3% had chronic diseases, 93.3% were non-alcoholic and/or non-smoker, 73.3% had one or more relapses, 60.0% had granulation tissue/epithelialization in the VU/43.3% had serosanguinous exudate and 100.0% of respondents had ulcers of grade III/grade IV. Conclusion: the results showed a predominantly female clientele, with low education and income, with chronic diseases, non-drinkers or non-smokers, with the presence of one or more relapses, VU with granulation tissue/epithelialization and exudate serosanguinous. All patients with tissue loss in grade III / grade IV. Descriptors: venous ulcers; health profile, nursing.
