This thesis investigates the evolutionary history of plants in the tribe Myrteae (family Myrtaceae), with a particular emphasis on the Chilean species. A comparative study of foliar and floral morphology and anatomy was undertaken at a tribal level, including many species for the first time. Phylogenetic analyses based on combined and separate analyses of molecular and morphological data were used to reconstruct relationships and infer historical biogeography and character evolution
