This document is the outcome of work that has been carried out over a number of years beginning in 2009. It started in response to concerns that clinical mentors for nurse practitioner (NP) students were not always clear about the expectations and scope of practice of an NP, especially in a speciality like nephrology nursing. Many people have supported and contributed to the work over the years. To ensure it is openly accessible into the future the authors present this resource. It begins with a very brief background to nurse practitioners and nephrology nursing in Australia
