Angel Rama, instead of carrying out a mere analysis of literary discourse, began to examine the ideology which gave rise to such type of speech, the political and social structures that generated it and the elements derived from mass media and readers. Thus, he managed to analyze, both deep and originally, Felisberto Hernandez’s works. Without Rama’s contribution, this writer would have lost the dimension of his own originality.
