This article deals with the actions of a group of local organizations in the face of socio-environmental risk, mainly caused by the pollution of a river in a region shared by the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala. I refer to the Coordinadora por un Atoyac con Vida (NGO for an Atoyac with Life), the Red de Jovenes en Defensa de los Pueblos (Youth Network in the People’s Defense) and the Centro Fray Julian Garces de Derechos Humanos A.C. (non-governmental Fray Julian Garces Center for Human Rights), which for two decades have publicly denounced the devastating environmental impact that industrial development is causing in the Alto Atoyac Basin.
