The main objective of this study is to assess the methodology of the Ecodesign taking into consideration its application to the project of the frozen lasagna product packed in cardboard (box) package intended to single consumers, as a tool to analyze the environmental impacts of the packaging system and to identify opportunities to minimizes them. The critical review of the literature presents the evolution of the environmental questions in the world and its affects in the packaging sector. First, it begins to study the Packaging System, disclosing its functioning structure and interaction of the subsystems between itself and with the natural environment. After that, is studies the behavior of the single consumer and the characteristics of the packages for this segment. Next, are presented the main topics that compose the Ecodesign that is seen as a tool to optimize the environmental performance of the products and to make possible the reduction of the impacts caused to the environment. Finally, it’s carried out a case study of one lasagna individual portion, with basis on the metodology presented in the bibliographical review. In sum, we expect that this study contributes to the development of the Ecodesign applied to the package projects with environmental responsibility in Brazil and also to the identification of improvements opportunities in the environmental performance of the lasagna packaging system. 1 Also know as Design for Environment, this work consists of integrating the environmental aspects in the package project to produce a packaging system with environmental resposibility. 2 When we mention packages, it refers to those intend to individual consumption, in another word, one portion of the product.
