Inclusion of gender perspective in the clinical approach has allowed for appreciating differential phenomena in psychopathology. In the field of addictions, it has opened the debate on the need for specific approaches that take into account the gender. The objective of this paper is to report the two-year experience with group therapy in women with alcohol problems at the Unit of Psychotherapy of University Hospital “12 de Octubre” in Madrid (Spain). An analysis is made of the narratives that emerged in the groups, which show the specificity of female alcoholism and the relevance of introducing in the addiction treatment units specific treatment modalities based on gender.
