Psychoanalytic literature review carried out through the experience supplied by an actual clinical case. It tries to explain negative therapeutic reaction, which was described for the first time by Freud in 1923. Other authors, mainly from the Kleinian School, have also tried to explain it while at the same time proposing conceptual and technical strategies in order to deal with it. It is shown how, in the clinical case presented in this paper, Joan Riviere’s contribution ended up being essential in order to solve the characteristic stagnation that sometimes happens while in the therapeutic process.
