Sialol i thiasis or sal ivary gland duct calculus or sal ivary st ones are the most common pathologi es of the sal ivary gland. Sialol i thiasis accoun ts for more than 50% of diseases of the major sal ivar y glands and is the most common cause of a cute and chron ic in fect ions. Sialol i ths are deposi ts obstruct ing the ducts of major or minor salivary glands or i ts parenchyma. Sal ivary stones larger than 15 mm are classi fied as gian t sia lol i ths. The prevalence o f sia lol i ths var ies by l ocat ion . About 85% of sia lol i ths occur in the submandibular gland and 5 10% occurs in the parot id gland. In about 5% of cases, the subl ingual gland or a minor sal ivar y gland is affected. Sialol i th in the parot id gland is less common when compared to submandibular gland. This case r epor t descr ibes a case of gian t sia lol i th of submandibular sal ivary gland.
