Geothermal energy potential in Indonesia is very large of about 28 Gwe which are distributed in various geothermal systems. Based on their geologic settings, geothermal sistems in Indonesia can be classified in three main types: vulcanics, vulcano-tectonics and non vulcanics. The vulcanic type geothermal system may consist of single strato volcano, vulcanic complex, and caldera systems, whereas, the vulcanotectonic type generally occurs both in depression structures (graben) and vulcanic cones. This classification of the systems may be used for preliminary estimation of their geothermal energy potentials. Vulcanic complex or caldera types generally have much larger geothermal energy potentials then other types.
