Mito. Alegorias religiosas. Abstract The mythology has created, in the course of time, a wealth of information about the wisdom in ancient times, explaining how the traditional thinking, supported in myth, could establish parameters to guide human behavior. The sacred character of myth has been modernized and vitalized by means of language, by revisiting the stories that transmit the civilizations’ patrimony to the existence of all times. The myths have always been related to religion and revealed through the rites, which naturalized the current habitus. The proximity between the contemporary world and the myths created thousands of years ago is built over the lessons of wisdom, always current, which come from the mythological space. This approximation is present in the scope of the arts in general, demonstrating the influence of tradition over all areas of human understanding. The work exposed here is a reading from the book Life of Pi, by Yann Martel, in order to demonstrate how it recovers many religious parables, leading the hero to reach self-knowledge. By referencing different religious Macabea – Revista Eletronica do Netlli | V. 3, N. 2, p. 88-100, jul.-dez. 2014 practices, the young Pi outlines an opposite path to the skepticism that dominates men’s thinking nowadays, expressing the union of man with his universe, permeated by the irruption of the sacred. KEYWORDS: Life of Pi. Myth. Religious parables.
