Analyzing the plea that had Carlos José Fontes Diegues (Cacá Diegues) elected, in detriment of the writer Conceição Evaristo, in August of 2018, this article investigates how art and power unite in the figure of the ABL. A historical overview of the Academy is made and an analysis of the current image of the ABL is created.
