Independent Mexican filmmakers face great challenges when trying to distribute and commercialize their projects in the national market. In this research, we examine the reason why these filmmakers are not able to successfully market their films in the different distribution windows available. In addition, we will review why the films that manage to reach the market, are not as profitable as the foreign proposals exhibited. The focus of this research supports the idea that the reason why projects are not economically profitable is the lack of knowledge about the business that filmmakers have when trying to launch a product to the market, in this case a film. Secondly, we will make a proposal for a business model that can help solve this problem to different filmmakers, so that they can focus on what is really important, their craft.
