This study aims to perform an integrative review of the literature on interventions in the work overload of informal caregivers of dependent elderly in the community, investigating how the role of nurses can be improved by mobilizing Dorothea Orem's Nursing Self-Care Deficit Theory. We performed the electronic research of articles in EBSCOhost, of which we selected nine and the results were grouped into three dimensions: I. Overload of caregivers of the elderly; II. Interventions for caregivers based on the self-care deficit; and III. Evidence of interventions to support informal caregivers. The implementation of multidisciplinary interventions in the community, together with informal caregivers, has a positive effect on overload.
