Surgical procedures, together with the application of anesthesia, produce changes in respiratory function, which increase the risk of suffering postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC), which are considered as one of the main causes of morbidity and death in the immediate postoperative period. Chest and abdomen surgery. Based on the above, a literature review of 70 articles comprised between the year 2002 and the year 2018 was carried out in the Proquest, Unitri databases. The Sevier, Scielo, Pubmed, Pubmed, Intramed, Medigraphic, Redalyc, Dialnet, Science Direct and BMC, which identify the main pulmonary complications associated with cardiovascular surgery. We found 22 articles that met the inclusion criteria, where it was identified that the most frequent types of pulmonary complications are pneumonia and atelectasis, which are associated with cardiovascular surgeries such as Myocardial Revascularization and
