Renal disease in patients with HIV infection is becoming increasingly frequent. A particular form of HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN) has been found in patients of predominantly African-American and Hispanic origin. However, only limited data are available on renal pathology and premortem clinical presentation of kidney disease in Caucasian patients with AIDS.
