bInterdisziplinare Intensivstation Summary Rapid onset of blindness after Candida sepsis and acute renal failure We report the case of a 52-year-old male with subacute cortical blindness and slightly altered mental status two weeks after treatment for candidaemia associated with severe septic shock and acute renal failure, followed by prolonged hypertension and polyuria. CT and MRT scans confirmed the diagnosis of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). The symptoms usually range from cortical blindness, often associated with Anton’s syndrome, seizures, headache and vomiting and reduced alertness, to a delirious mental state.
