In 2016, 11,029 patients started renal replacement therapy (RRT) for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in France, i.e., an overall incidence of 165 per million population (pmp): 10,590 started dialysis (158 pmp) and 439 patients had pre-emptive transplantation, without previous dialysis (7 pmp). Ageand gender-standardized RRT incidence was almost twice as high in the overseas territories than in mainland France, 315 versus 161 pmp. This incidence is for the first time in 2016 on decrease by 2.4 %. The decrease was observed in all age group except the age group between 75 and 84 years of age. Median age at RRT initiation was 70.7 year. Mots-clefs : Insuffisance rénale chronique terminale, incidence, dialyse, greffe préemptive
