Is There Any Difference on Gastroscopic Findings Between Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Patients?

Aim: The aim of this study is to compare retrospectively gastroscopic findings of asymptomatic patients undergoing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Material and Method: Gastroscopic data of 101 patients with chronic renal failure waiting kidney transplantation were evaluated in the current study. Of the 101 patients, 77 were undergoing hemodialysis and 24 were undergoing peritoneal dialysis. H. pylori status in patients with endoscopic findings was evaluated by the rapid urease test. The demographic data and gastroscopic findings of the patients were recorded. Results: Gastroscopic findings were abnormal in 66.2% of hemodialysis group and 45.8% of peritoneal dialysis group. Gastritis was the most frequent finding in both groups. H. pylori rapid urease positivity was 31% and 54% of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis groups, respectively. Discussion: No significant difference in gastroscopic findings was observed between two groups of patients undergoing different dialysis modalities. H. pylori prevelance was also similar in both groups
