TIE DESIGN OF the Astro Spiral Jump was an unusual pro je c t f o r the Calspan C o r p o r a t i o n . The end product, a spectacular automobile maneuver, was f irst publicly performed in the Houston Astrodome (Figure 1) and more recently was featured in the 1974 James Bond f i lm , “The Man with the Golden Gun”, produced by United Artists Corporation (Figure 2) . It is currently being featured in the American Thrill Show, produced by .J. bl. CL* Productions, Inc. , of Hamburg, New York In addit ion to creating a thri l l show feature ac t , th i s p ro j e c t has a l so se rved t o substantially extend the response ranges of the val idation of the computer simulation used in i ts design. The HVOSM computer simulation of automobi le dynamics ( i .e . , flighway Vehicle Obstacle Simulation Model, (2)) was developed b y Calspan f o r app l i ca t i ons r e la ted t o the safety aspects of highway and roadside design.
