Stockage des déchets dangereux en centres collectifs en France: Quels impacts sur l'environnement ?

Industrial players in the field of hazardous waste landfill, as represented in the French federation on waste services and remediation (Fnade), in partnership with the French environmental agency (Ademe), evaluated the environmental impacts of this activity. This study applied an internationally recognised Life Cycle Analysis approach to establish a true and objective picture of the environmental interactions. The LCA indicates that overall, the environmental impacts are lesser than for other activities operating at a national scale for which bibliographical data is available. The study also pointed to areas of improvement in environmental performance for the activity as a whole, for example by substituting by partially substituting raw materials used in the stabilization process with industrial by-products. Les professionnels du stockage des déchets dangereux en centres collectifs en France regroupés au sein de la Fnade ont décidé, en partenariat avec l'Ademe, d'évaluer les impacts environnementaux de cette filière afin de disposer d'un état des lieux objectif réalisé selon un référentiel normatif international via la méthodologie d'analyse du cycle de vie (ACV). L'ACV montre que les impacts environnementaux sont globalement mineurs par rapport aux autres activités à l'échelle nationale pour lesquelles on dispose de données bibliographiques publiques. Elle a également permis de définir des axes d'amélioration des performances environnementales de la filière (substitution partielle des matières premières intervenant dans la stabilisation par des sous-produits industriels par exemple).
