An analysis of 3 forestry reviews reveals how Landscape plays an increasing role in the thinking of French, Italian and Spanish forest managers. Moreover, the meaning of the word has changed going from a simple description of a place to a true management goal. The values attributed to landscapes however vary a great deal: Mediterranean forest landscapes are often underestimated and depreciated compared to the others forest landscapes in those countries except in Italy. There are several possible explanations for these disparities – different forest management principles, the political structure, forest history and the legislation inherent to each country.
