Forest ecosystems are generally adapted to adverse environments requiring efficient use of available nutrient resources. Where do these resources come from? What are the respective shares coming from atmospheric deposition and from soil mineral weathering? The use of Sr isotopes as sourcetracers indicates that the nutrients originate from a mixture of both these two sources in the Azerailles site (richer soil) but mostly from atmospheric deposition in the Clermont-en-Argonne site (poorer soil).
